Saree ka Gunijan Khana, the theoretical and performance component of Red Earth’s The Saree Festival hopes to bring together various voices and ideas around the Saree, in a multidisciplinary approach to celebrate the wondrous swirl of the Saree.

MONDAY 2 NOV
11 am – 1 pm: Coffee morning – informal meet and greet and Saree gossip / festival opening!
6.30 pm: Screening of the film ‘Natale Tumchyasathi: Behind the adorned veil’; Dir: Savitri Medhatul; (Colour, 60 mins, Marathi with English subtitles)
The film presents a fascinating glimpse into the world of Lavani, Maharashtra’s popular folk dance idiom. The screening will be followed by a discussion with the director and a Lavani performance by Shakuntalabai Nagarkar.
TUESDAY 3 NOV

11 am – 1 pm: Saree Styling Workshop, led by Himanshu Verma (curator, Saree Festival), Sonia Mehta (stylist) & Pallavi Datta (Stylist, blogger)
The Saree styling workshop aims to incite participants to ceaselessly experiment with draping styles, and Saree styling. From traditional Pan-Indian styles to more contemporary Saree accesorisation, discover so much more you can do with the Saree, to make it fun, sexy, and YOU!

6.30 pm-8 pm: Love Saree: notes from my love affair with the drape; A panel discussion
Join Mumbai’s leading figures in design, industry, and the arts world to sing the glory of the Saree. The discussion aims to unravel how diverse practitioners create or use the drape in their own special way, bringing in stories of tradition, continuity, change, revival & experimentation.
